Issues that pervade the campus environment and must be dealt with by young adults:

• Relationships (in an environment of superficial male-female relationships and "hooking up")
• Increased peer pressure in every area in the absence of their home support structure
• "Partying", including promiscuous sex and binge drinking
• Drug use
• Credit card debt
• Depression and loneliness
• Gambling
• Pornography
• College sports-related predatory aggressiveness and a growing culture of lawlessness
• Faculty animosity towards Christian worldviews in many public and private colleges

And college student lives reflect these attitudes:

• According to a Zogby international poll, 56.5% of college students say they are "sexually active"
• The Alan Guttmacher Institute reports that 1/5 of all abortions are performed on a college student
• Up to one half of students engaged in binge drinking according to various studies
• The American College Health Association 2004 study showed that 40% of college men and 50% of college women experience depression so severe that they could "barely function" at some time
• "The emptiness many students feel is enormous and they are looking for something to fill it," said Bridget Gill, a three-year missionary for FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students, www.focusonline.org).
